After sharing points with Cotonsport of Garoua, and putting USD to the sword, Avion of Nkam have gone ahead to dig deep against the 2017 Cameroon cup winners, New stars of Douala in an encounter that ended two at peace for both sides.
The promotion to the elite level was the best thing to have happened to the littoral based club after their unprecedented rise to glory from the ELITE 2, to the League 1. The club was created in 2012 and are testing their first campaign in the top flight. Many predicted the men in light green and black will struggle, but with the turn of events it seems Avion might be the only club to keep their status as a top flight club, with an erratic TKC and PWD currently struggling to find their feet.
On Sunday,March 17, 2019 Coach Ina Ngassa put up a very much similar side to the one that lost to Colombe in match day 8, and perhaps the most shocking decision was keeping out highest goal scorer, Mounet Aime.
A rampant New stars started the game with a high pressing intensity, but Zambo Sedrick, totally against the run of play opened scores in the 36 minute for Avion. New stars created chances but their problem was in the final third, as the men of Patrice Fotso looked to be missing the creativity of Nelson Moukeu who for some strange reasons was left in the shades.
It was much like it from New stars of Douala in the second half. A star contrast to AVION who resorted to defending, and they paid the price when in the 62 minute Aristide Medjo had the ball and the Avion defenders kept on backing off and invited a long range screamer that left goal keeper Nzong Ulrich in no man’s land. Second half sub, Honore Ze followed up in the 68 minute with a similar golozo from long range. The panic button was hit and in an attempt to salvage a point, coach Ina handed a task to Mounet Aime and creative midfielder, Ondingui Raphael. The change of tactics had an immediate effect with Mfegue George scoring with 5 minutes to the end of the encounter, and that was that. The result means the both club’s still have everything to play for in the second half of the season that begins on Sunday 20, 2019.
Avion have been stubborn against Cotonsport,TKC,PWD,Union Sportive and New Stars in the first round of this season’s championship.
