New Stars of Douala are aiming for their first win in the relegation playoff as the 2017 Cup of Cameroon winners are determined to maintain their elite one status next year.
They face Union of Douala in an all-littoral derby on Sunday at the Limbe Centenary Stadium.
Union Douala have been on top form in the playoff campaign and do not look worrisome against struggling New Stars.
Both Union and Newstars are struggling to play top flight football next season.
Union have less pressure on their backs after recording two wins in their last two playoff games. They narrowly edged Astre 1-0 and recently beat Unisport Haut Nkam 1-0 on Wednesday.
The Douala outfit is currently at the top of the elite one relegation table with 6points and are the only team to have won all their matches so far.
A win for them will consolidate their top spot and pull them further away from relegation next season.
New Stars of Douala have been consistently inconsistent. The champions have lost all two of their previous games. The lost their first elite one survival match 2-3 against PWD Bamenda in Limbe and fell to Fovu of Baham 1-2 last weekend. They are button of the relegation table with no point.
If New Stars pulls a win, they would have eventually taken a bold step for their safety while looking forward to their further games.
Also, a win against for them will end Union’s brilliant run in the relegation playoffs.
Union Douala and New Stars have an interesting record of rivalries. Both teams first meet in April 2012 and pulled a 1-1 in their debut.
Union have played 16 matches against New Stars and have won 4,drawn 7 and lost 5. They have been able to score 18 goals against their Littoral rivals , conceding 14.

Union of Douala have secured back to back defeats in the relegation playoffs. They have scored two goals in two games. They beat Fovu 1-0 and edged les Astre 1-0. They have also keep clean sheets twice.

Arthur Banen will also be a key player for USD not leaving out Under 23 Lion Tchayi Cyrille Tchamba who started from the bench on Wednesday but remains USD’s best scorer in the last two seasons.
