Goalscoring defender Arno Ndzana was on target on Friday as Astres of coach Anicet Mbarga Foe had the better of city rivals in derby that mattered most for the losers.
Ndzana scored his eighth goal of the season as Union Sportive of Douala fell 3-1 to high-flying Astres, who improved their record against their fellow Littoral club.
The match started off as a tough fight, with very few prolonged spells of possession for both sides. But Astres broke the deadlock in the 6th minute, with Aboude giving a glorious display of his clinical finishing and Api Eric grabbing the assist.
The side were surprisingly complacent, with Arno Ndzana even receiving stern instructions from Anicet Mbarga early in the game after Eibar were pressing hard. But in the first-half, the Nasara Gamakai were mostly ineffective, and highly defensive in their approach.
But Astres extended their lead 23 minutes after the first goal as goalscoring defender Ndzana nocthed home his eighth goal of the season and jis side’s second of the afternoon.
The Astres experience was at its best again when goal poacher Leon Boyomo scored the third for Brizilians four minutes from the interval.
That third goal put the game to bed though it was just half way in.
Astres of Douala were reduced to ten six minutes into the second segment and Union Sportive pulled one back in the 74th minute but it was too little late.
Ndzana was easily the man-of-the-match. He showed that he still has it, and the management does not need to worry about his successor anytime soon.
Leon Boyomo was also very good, and performed confidently. He wowed the Bepanda Omnisport with some ingenious tricks, including various nutmegs. Apart from the goal, Boyomo was relatively quiet. But he did more in that span of time than most players do in 90 minutes.
This should give Astres some nice momentum going into the title playoffs game against Cotonsport in Garoua.
