The 5th National Youth Games organized by the Youth and Sports Ministry is the fourth edition hosted by University of Ilorin, Kwara State. Over 4,000 children ages 15 and below from 34 states are involved in 34 sports.

The games which started days ago as seen teams amass several medals.

The team from Delta today increased their medal hauls as they won some medals today in swimming. The team claimed its first gold in the sport after Olisa Chukwunalu clocked one minute twenty point four six seconds in the boys 100 meters backstroke swimming event.

The gold medal increased for the team as the champions pick 2 more gold in swimming with Oliseh Chukwunalu winning in 200 meters individual medley boys event and 50 meters butterfly boys. Yakubu Daniel added another gold to Team Delta’s haul after claiming gold in Judo 36 kg boys event.

The team from Delta also picked two gold medals in the canoeing event with Olowoniyi Adeniji picking gold in the male K 200 meters men para event while Ayomide Ehimoro won the K1 200 meters para women event. This brings the team’s medal to six gold medals.

The FCT team has been good so far as it has to its name five medals; four gold and one silver as at the last check.

Team Akwa Ibom put its name earlier in the medals table after it recorded it’s first medal at the ongoing National Youth Games from Judo as Ubong Abasi Iniobong defeated Success Oseni of Borno to win Bronze in the -42KG Boys.

Team Lagos led in the swimming event earlier after claiming two gold and one silver while Delta was second with one gold one silver and one bronze. Edo had one gold after four events.
Team Ogun also won three medals in Gymnastics on day one at the ongoing National Youth Games in Ilorin. Alameen Mustapha Yomi won two gold medals in floor and Vault and combined with Alameen Jubril Ajani & Kareem Usman Ajani to win bronze in the team event.

Team Oyo was today also on the medal’s list as in Weightlifting, Aserere Adeola won two silver medals and one bronze medal.

Adeyeri jolaade of Oyo also won the silver medal in 100m breaststroke in swimming today.

Team Oyo had won silver medal in Gymnastics. Also, at the Judo event, Elizabeth Adesuyi outwit her counterparts to win the first fight and proceeeds to the next round.

Meanwhile, The team Delta won the Beach Volleyball game against Team Ogun winning 2 – 0 in first game.

In feamle football, Lagos defeated Akwaibom 2-0 while Delta beat Anambra 2-1. Team Kano defeated Ondo 2-0 in today’s make football game.

The University of Ilorin has consistently hosted the National Youth Games for 4 years and most of the sports are done in the campus except swimming.
