Victoria United Football club of Limbe have beaten Real FC of Bertoua 2-0, to keep their Elite Two hopes alive, on Thursday, September 15 at the Ngeme Omnisport Stadium.
The match day two encounter was a fierce battle between a ambitious Victoria United side who needed a win to stay remain on track against the Bertoua side who came in search of a second win.
Bisong Tanyi Jeff after squandering several opportunities, made amends with a brace at the 45th minute plus four of added time and at the 50th minute respectively.
A game with very high stakes, Coach Dimitar Pantev, made a few changes to the usual starting option. Team captain, Mbuh Paul was benched, while Midodo Chani was made to start the game.
Etchu Perry headed the team in this encounter since Mbuh Paul was only brought in the second half alongside former Under 17 Lion, Mbeng Joel.
Opopo squandered several goal scoring opportunities and Bouba failed to convert two free kick chances and give Victoria the much need goals awaited in the early minutes before Bisong Jeff’s first goal came in.
Victoria had another clear opportunity to get an early goal when Bisong Jeff came one on one with one time goalkeeper of Njalla Quan Sports Academy, Martial Meyangue, but wasted the chance.
Real FC of Garoua though lost the game, fought hard in both halfs but their efforts were insufficient to outsmart the South West representative.
Keeping the lead till the last minutes of the game, Victoria United’s defense man, Joseph Jeanot Kotto saw red few minutes to the referee’s final whistle, for what was considered delay tactics.
However, the player cried foul since he was lying helpless on the green turf demanding aid from the Medics, but he was not spared for the second time after he had already been cautioned early into the second segment.
Real attackers could not use the 11-10 man opportunity to pull one back nor equalize since time was against them. Opopo grabbed all three points.
The sea side boys have now recorded two wins and a draw in 3 games, remaining in command of Pool B with now 7 points.
Unofficially, Victoria United is tailed by Aigle Royal of Nkongsamba with four points.
As Real of Bertoua have Aigle Royal and Ajax of Maroua to face in their next two games. They picked up three points against FC Ebolowa in day one.
Victoria United are partially through to the semis with just one game left against FC Ebolowa for the first phase.
