The Botswana government has written a proposal to the Namibian government in bidding to host the 2027 African Cup of Nations.
According to the Namibian executive director in the Ministry of Sports, Youth and National Service , Audrin Mathe, he has confirmed that Namibia has been approached by Botswana with a proposal to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.
In his words ” Yes l can confirm that the Botswana Minister for Sports has written to our minister but these are still early days and no decision has been made yet,” Mathe said.
Speaking during the BFA ordinary general assembly ,the Botswana Minister for Youth Empowerment,Sport and Cultural Development Rakgare had this;
“We would also beg on you to ensure there is a team ready to take on the continental powerhouse and not only add to the numbers. Who can forget the determination and grit we showed ahead of the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations.”
“I have no doubt that with proper structures, we can do far better by 2027”.
The Namibian government is expected to decide on whether or not to accept Botswana’s request to co-host the 2027 Nations Cup tournament. However, a decisive stakeholder meeting is expected to hold in the days ahead.
Five nations have showcased their interest in hosting the 36th edition of the Nations cup tournament. They include :
Algeria, Botswana and Namibian as co-host Burkina Faso, Mauritania/Senegal/ Gambia
The final decision will be passed during the 44th Ordinary CAF General Assembly in Cairo 2022.
As of now the 34 edition of the Africa Nations Cup is slated for Ivory Coast next year, meanwhile, Guinea will be receiving the 34rd edition in 2025.
