The 26th edition of the Mount Cameroon Race of Hope is almost here. With 3 days to go until the race proper, officials of the South West Regional League of Athletics are leaving no stone unturned to see a proper race.
Speaking to kick442.com, Andrew Eteki Njoh, President of the SW Regional League of Athletics says they are 85 to 90 per cent ready for the race on Saturday.
He said: “Buea is ready to welcome athletes participating in this year’s edition. We have eleven countries with France, Morocco, and Kenya at the top of it.”
There have been meetings at various levels to ensure that the race goes on smoothly. The Governor of the race held a meeting with the officials on Monday to ascertain the level at which all the committees have gone.
“The tracks of the mountain have been cleared and painted to indicate the road to the summit. We have about 355 porters that will be going up the mountain to sustain the runners with water,” Andrew Eteki Njoh added.
Athletes have already started making their way into Buea for the race.
Some 30 athletes from Bamenda are already in town with those from out of the country like the Kenyans also in Buea.
This year some five hundred athletes are expected to challenge the “chariot of the gods” with 11 foreign countries.
The launch of the Mt Cameroon Race of Hope will take place this Friday, February 26 at the Molyko Omnisport Stadium and the race proper comes up Saturday, February 27.
