Winner of the 25th edition of the Mt Cameroon race of hope, Godlove Gabbisibuin explained to reporters of how fierce the competition between himself and 2019 winner, Mbatcha Eric was – before the latter bowed out of the 2020 edition.
“I am just proud of myself having won the mountain race five times. I broke last year’s record. Last year the first person took 4 hours 46 minutes, but this time, I’ve taken 4 hours 33 minutes so there’s a great difference.”
When asked if the absence of good friend Eric Mbatcha made him have an easy ride, Gabbisibuin replied: “Eric is my friend. I enjoy when I am running with him. He is afraid of me, as well as I am afraid of him, because we both are “lions”. Yesterday I spoke with Mbatcha Eric, and he wished me good luck.”
Despite having won the race for a whopping five times, Godlove Gabbisibuin kept calm: “when you win this race, do not make lots of”noise” because people would start aiming at you with different intentions,” the the new crowned 2020 champion ended.
Gabbisibuin arrived 2 minutes 6 seconds ahead of second placed Ndungeh Simplice and 7 minutes 40 seconds ahead of new boy Elvis Nsabinla to continue his superlative form in the race.
