The Minister of Sports and Physical education Narcisse Mouelle Kombi has today February 21, launched the silver jubilee of the Mt Cameroon race of hope, with the approval of the Bakweri chiefs after a number of traditional rights conducted.

After newly elected mayor David Mafany Namange welcomed the population into Buea with a lovable speech, Minister Narcisse Mouelle Kombi took the pedal to officially open the event.

Minister’s launching speech;

“I would like to welcome athletes from other countries, who have come to join their brothers and sisters of Cameroon to conquer Mount Cameroon and celebrate the noble values of sports notably: Fraternity, friendship and solidarity. Your presence on Cameroon soil magnifies the humanity virtues of sports which bring people together regardless of the colour of their skin, religion or culture. It is a great moment of living together and sociability, equally a good opportunity for discovery and exchange of culture and civilization.”

“Dear athletes, the 2020 Mt. Cameroon race of hope comes at a time when Cameroon is preparing to host many sporting events like the AFCON from 9 January to 6 February 2021, and the African Nations Championship in less than two months.”

“I equally take advantage to you remind the sports loving population that the cities of Limbe and Buea will have the privilege of hosting the aforementioned competitions, which is a great feat,” Narcisse Mouelle ended.

The 25 edition of the race of hope would take center stage on Saturday 22nd, as over 550 athletes are expected to challenge the ‘chariot of the gods’ and ascend the throne of last year’s winner of the men’s category, Mbatcha Eric who has announced himself unavailable due to personal reasons, while Tume Yinyuy would wish to keep her throne in the women’s category.
