Meeting in Yaoundé, political Capital of Cameroon and host country of CHAN 2021 which kicks off on Saturday 16th January 2021, Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) executive committee, let by interim president Constant Omari Made the announcement which sent the North African country into a wild frenzy.
Morocco will be staging the biggest women’s showpiece on the continent after Congo pulled out prematurely in July 2019 citing lack of its governments backing to host the event. This left the event without a host and was later cancelled due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.
CAF had prior to the cancellation augmented from 8 to 12 the number of participating countries marking a significant increase of 4 nations compared to its previous 11 editions.
During their last participation, the Atlas Lionesses suffered three scathing defeats in the group stage and shipped in the process 13 goals and scoring 1 throughout the tournament. There’s hope and enthusiasm from Moroccans that as host of the 2022 edition, their women will improve on their past results.
