Egyptian captain and Liverpool forward, Mohammed Salah has emerged the 2021 Laureus Sporting Inspiration Award winner.
The Pharaoh giant was instrumental the Mersyside Red first Premier League title in 30 years scoring 30 goals at the end of the season.
He also aided projects in his hometown Nagreb, donating money to build a school, gym, hospital and ambulance unit.
“I’m very proud to have been chosen by the Laureus Academy for this award. 2020 was a very difficult year. We need to learn from this experience, support one another and do our best to look ahead.” Salah said after receiving the award.
German League Kings Bayern Munich were recognized as the team for their outstanding performance in the 2019/2020 season.
Tennis also won big as 20-time Grand Slam winner, Rafael Nadal and US Open champion Naomi Osaka took their place as sportsman and sportswoman of the year.
BillieJean King also took the lifetime achievement award. She founded the WTA in 1973 on the principle of equal opportunity and won 129 singles titles during her career.
Seventh-time Formula one winner, Lewis Hamilton won the social activism award. His third Laureus award.
