Officials of the Egyptian Football Association have announced the passing away of the goalkeeper’s coach Mohamed Abdou of local side Club Badr Sports.
Reports from local media Les360sport on Monday May 11, 2020 say the gaffer lost his battle against the deadly CoronaVirus and adds to the over 500 persons that have lost their lives since the outbreak of the pandemic in the North African nation.
A statement from the Egyptian Football Association confirmed the veteran coach was killed by the virus.
“The Egyptian football federation, its president, the members of the board of directors and the executive office as well as all the employees are saddened by the death of Captain Mohamed Abdou, goalkeepers’ coach of Club Badr, who died today ( editor’s note: Monday) from the CoronaVirus… ” A statement from the Egyptian football Association’s Facebook account read.
Football activities have switched off in the country since the outbreak of the CoronaVirus pandemic in February this year.
So far, Egypt has registered more than 8,500 confirmed cases and nearly 500 deaths due to the virus, out of a population of 110 million inhabitants.
