The former Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) boss Alhaji Raji has expressed his displeasure about how the personal assistant of the sports minister Kofi Asare, Brako Abatey handled the communication on former Black Stars coach James Kwesi Appiah.
James Kwesi Appiah has been chasing both the GFA and the Ministry of Youth and Sports for his unpaid salaries and bonuses to the tune of $185,000.
Speaking to Kumasi based Nhyira FM on the salary issue a few weeks ago, Asare Brako said:
“Kwesi Appiah was in charge of the Black Stars for well over two years. If you aggregate the salaries and bonuses he took while with the team (he took double of whatever players were taking as bonuses) he made over one million dollars in that period.
“We know we owe him but he is not broke. Kwesi Appiah is not hungry, he is a big man, he has enough money, we have paid him over 27 months salaries, plus sign on fee of $250,000.”
However, the former GHALCA chief believes, Abatey’s comment was not the best when handling such sensitive issues.
“The Minister’s P. A. (Kofi Asare Brako Abatey) is a matured journalist. I’m surprised about how he has handled communication on the Kwesi Appiah’s outstanding salary issue,” Alhaji Raji told Akoma FM.
“Whether it’s the ministry or the GFA, they are still owing him so you have to handle it well.
This is not the first time we are owing somebody and it will not be the last time too but the communication in such situations is very important.”
