Mike Fondop-Talum has opened his goal-scoring account for his new club Burton Albion in the English League 1 championship. Burton faced Charlton away from home on Tuesday, with Mike Fondop handed his first start.
Fondop who recently signed for the club scored his first goal at the 25mins with an assist from Johnny Smith. The goal brought the game to 1-1 after Charlton had taken the lead at the 9mins through Jayden Stockley
An own-goal from Ben Watson gave all three points for Burton who have been struggling recently to put wins on the board.
Mike Fondop was then substituted in a tactical move by Coach Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink as the side looked to conserve their one-goal lead.
Coming from behind to take all three points through the first Brewers goals from Mike Fondop and Danny Rowe, Albion showed a perfect reaction to last weekend’s disappointing defeat at home to Sunderland.
It should be recalled that Fondop joined Burton after his short-term deal at National League side Aldershot Town expired.
He has signed a deal with Burton until the end of the season and Burton have the option to making the deal permanent.
The 27-year-old made his Burton debut as a second-half substitute in their 3-0 home defeat against Sunderland, on Saturday.
“I can’t wait to hit the ground running and to show to the club and the fans what I’m capable of doing,” Fondop told iFollow Brewers.
Despite the victory, Burton Albion is still bottom of the English League 1 with 25 points with two games in hand.
They are three points from safety. Burton Albion will be in action again on March 2 as they welcome Bristol Rovers.
