The oldest Veterans’ club in the South West Region has been hit by the sudden death of their 40 year old coach Melang Nelson.
Born in the neighborhood of Soppo 40 years ago Melang Nelson is a former student of the Government High School Buea.
As a defender he played for Devcam of Tiko and Botafogo FC of Buea.
He served as coach with Dynamic FC of Buea and Botafogo FC of Buea in the capacity of an assistant coach.
He has been an active member of the 35 years old Clerks’ Quarters based Buea Veterans FC for the last six years and has been their head coach for two years now.
Nelson coached the Buea Veterans to a victory, a draw and a win in the 2019 National Veterans tournament in Yaoundé.
He also led them to the finals of the six teams Veterans Tournament for Peace at the Buea Municipal Stadium, played under the auspices of the Lord Mayor of the Buea Municipality, Mr Ekema Patrick Esunge, on May 20, 2019.
He was was reported sick a few days ago and was rushed to the Buea Regional Hospital, and was reported dead three days later despite the swift efforts of members of his Veteran club to come to his rescue.
He leaves behind a fiancée and a five months old daughter, other family and friends and a veterans family of over 100 members to mourn him.
