Cameroon and Asante Kotoko forward, Etouga Mbella has been beaten in the 2021/22 Ghana Premier League golden boot race on a one goal difference by Ashanti Gold’s Yaw Annor.
This is after Annor bagged a brace in the final fixture and 2-2 draw on Sunday, June 19, against Gold Stars to win the Golden boot award, equaling Ishmael Addo’s record during the 2001 Football season in Ghana.
The Young lad was expected to equal the record and maybe break it on Saturday in their game against Accra Lions but it ended in a 1-1 draw.
Etouga finished the season with a 21 goal tally and still led the race to win the golden boot until Annie’s heartbreaking brace came on Sunday.
Unlike Etouga Mbella who has played 30 games, counts five assists and has scored 21 goals this season, Yaw Annor was able to beat him to the award by scoring 22 goals in 30 games played.
Annor has now become the second player in Ghana Premier League history to score 22 goals in a single season and helped his side finish 7th on the league table.
Etouga was tipped Favourite to have won the boot as was the highest goal scorer of the Ghanaian Premier league this season before now.
The Cameroonian goal machine has always been in fine form since he joined the club on October 12,2021.
Franck Etouga Mbella scored his 21st goal of the season for his Ghanaian club, Asante Kotoko in a 1-0 league win against Accra Great Olympic June 5, 2022.
His lone goal in that game gave the already crowned champions of the Ghanaian Premier league to maintain their position as leaders of the Ghanaian Premier league’s table with then 63 points.
Frank Mbella Etouga was also been handed his maiden senior national team call-up from Cameroon’s head coach Rigobert Song but was later dropped after the list was trimmed before the 2023 AFCON qualifier against Burundi.
