25-year-old Senegalese international forward Mbaye Niang has openly admitted that he wants a new challenge away from Rennes next summer.
The former Torino forward was speaking on Canal Football Club on Canal+Sport.
“In my head I have my desires and I take responsibility for them. If I had to leave, I would be proud of what I have achieved with Rennes,” Niang said.
“But if I happen to stay I will happily continue to give my best to see that the club improves. The management of the club knows my intentions to move to a bigger club without any disrespect to Rennes, who gave me the opportunity to rediscover myself and enjoy my football again.”
Niang’s current contract with Rennes runs till June 2023. The Caen youth product and former AC Milan striker admitted he will be glad to move to Marseille.
“It’s flattering. There are ongoing discussions, but for now we have not reached anything concrete. I have not signed yet,” he added.
“Marseille also have problems of their own to handle. Yes, it’s a club that I am interested in, with it’s history and beautiful city. They have great supporters, just as I like it.
“If the move happens, I will be very happy. If I have a sporting project just like the one we had at Rennes, taking a pay cut will not be a problem as long as I will enjoy my football and win trophies.”
The French international however does not rule out the possibility of a move elsewhere.
“There are interests from clubs in France but there are also interests from English clubs. I love Marseille very much, but there are many other clubs that I could love as well as much as I love Marseille.”
Niang scored 15 goals in 36 games for Rennes this season across all competitions, 10 of them in his 25 league appearances.
