28-year-old Senegalese forward Mbaye Diagne has taken to Instagram to fuel debates about why professional footballers engage in the beautiful game.
This comes in an era when it common to hear footballers descriping more than one club as the biggest club in the world especially during their presentation as a new signing.
Kissing club badges,displaying the sign of the heart to indicate love for a club are common sights from players in different clubs these days as if to indicate love and commitment.
28-year-old former Juventus of Turin forward Mbaye Diagne who spent the second half of the just ended season at Club Brugge has rubbished all of this in an Instagram outing on Wednesday stating he plays for the cash because of his responsibilities.
During a live on Instagram, the Senegalese international spoke about what drives him to make certain career choices.
“I play for the cash. The money is my motivation and that’s what drives me towards any club”.Mbaye asserted.
It is common to find many African footballers being the major source of support to a family as large as a community and Mbaye is not an exception.
“Like many Senegalese footballers, I am a breadwinner.I have over thirty persons who depend on me” The Dakar-native declared.
The Galatasaray forward who spent the second half of this season on loan at Belgian side Club Brugge. He ended the season with four goals from 12 appearances in the club’s colors.
The forward has had stints in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, China, Belgium, Senegal and recently hinted on a switch to England with Watford and Nottingham Forest lurking.
His contract at the Ali Sami Yen Spor Kompleksi Türk Stadium runs till the summer of 2023.
The former Ajaccio forward has won nine caps for the Terenga Lions of Senegal.
