The Head coach of the U-20 Lions of Cameroon Ousmanou Christophe is relishing the opportunity to play the opening match of the U-20 AFCON in Mauritania.
The Coach whose team arrived in Mauritania on Thursday, February 13, was speaking in a pre-match press conference as his side face Mauritania in the opening game of the tournament this evening.
“It is a pleasure for us to play the opening match as it is an opportunity not giving to everyone. We will approach the game with all what we have,” Coach Ousmanou Christophe said.
The squad selected by Ousmanou Christophe has a blend of home-ground talent and those coming from the Diaspora. To the Coach, those who were born out of the country are still Cameroonians like those who were born in the country as he had no problem in selecting players who are plying their trade out of the country.
Before arriving in Mauritania, Cameroon had a series of friendly encounters in Morocco where they were having their last camping. Cameroon won Burkina Faso 1-0 in the first friendly game and lost to The Game on the same scoreline in the second game.
The team made up for their lapse in concentration in their third encounter as the defeated CAR by 3-0. PWD’s Nchindo John Bosco scored a hattrick for Cameroon in that encounter.
Cameroon is in Group A of the Under 20 AFCON alongside host Mauritania, Uganda and Mozambique. Cameroon’s second game comes up on February 17 against Uganda.
