Former Newcastle United and Nigerian international forward Martins Obafemi is set to make a come back to football after being sidelined for months without a club, according to reports from Titan Sports.
The former Inter Milan and Portsmouth striker left Chinese Super League outfit Shanghai Shenhua some months back, after sustaining a career threatening injury.
The veteran Nigerian is set to make a return to football in the days ahead, with Shanghai Shenhua lining up a move for him.
Shenhua are looking to replace fellow Nigerian forward Odion Ighalo who joint Manchester United in the January transfer window on a loan deal.
The Chinese club have identified 35-year-old Martins as a suitable replacement for Ighalo and are set to bring him back to the club.
Martins proved his goal scoring prowess in his previous stint with the club, bagging 32 goals in 59 games across all competitions. They are therefore in no doubt that he will be a good addition to their attacking compartment.
Martins Akinwumi Obafemi developed through the ranks of Ebedei in his native Nigeria, Reggiana and Inter Milan in Italy.
He spent five successful years with Inter Milan, making 136 appearances, scoring 49 goals and providing 12 assists, winning the Italian Serie A title, two Coppa Italia titles and an Italian Super Cup.
He went on to spend three years with Newcastle United before moves to Wolfsburg, Rubin Kazan, Birmingham City, Levante, Seattle Sounders FC and Shanghai Shenhua.
The pacy and acrobatic striker represented the Super Eagles of Nigeria 42 times, scoring 19 goals.
