Former AC Milan and Chelsea defender Marcel Desailly is set to be appointed as Ghanaian Football Association’s Technical Director, according to reports from Happy FM.
The position had been vacant since the departure of Francis Oti Akenteng at the end of his contract. The Ghanaian FA made a call for applications from anyone who thinks he has what it takes to occupy the position.
Francis Oti Akenteng had occupied the role for 14 years.
A number of top football personalities have deposited their applications for the role including French 1998 World Cup and Euro 2000 winner Marcel Desailly. The 1993 and 1994 UEFA Champions League winner with Marseille and AC Milan respectively has emerged as the front runner to land the job.
Desailly who is of Ghanaian decent and was born in Accra had sent a congratulatory message to newly appointed Ghanaian FA President Kurt Okraku in February, following his appointment and pledged his total support to him during his term.
Desailly played for Nantes, Marseille, Milan AC, Chelsea, Al-Gharafa and Qatar SC, winning 116 caps for France with three goals to his name for the French national team.
He won almost everything at stake in world, including the FIFA World Cup and Euros, as well as league titles, the UEFA cup and the UEFA Champions League.
With his vast experience and football knowledge, it is believed that he might just be the man to carve out a long term vision for the Ghanaian FA.
