Cotonsport of Garoua has beaten Astres of Douala 2#0, in the second semi final game of the title playoffs of the 2021_2022 MTN Elite one championship.
Captain Marou Souaibou netted a second half brace at the Roumde Ajia stadium on Thursday night, to take the Cotonites one step closer to their 17th league title.
The cotonites who finished second in Pool B, were playing just their first league game in Garoua this season, after spending most of the campaign down south, precisely in Limbe and Bafoussam. In front of them was a no nonsense Brizilians of Bepanda, who dominated pool A in the regular season.
Patient Wasou Goue’s side netting at the 18 minute of the game, was probably the closest any of the two sides came in the first half, which was rather more physical.
It took cotonsport just two minutes into the second half to raise the curtains, when Che Malone picked up a loose ball around Cotonsport’s defense and raced to the halfway line before unleashing a through ball to Marou Souaibou, as the latter rounded goalkeeper Jordan Mbaynaissem, before slotting the ball to the back of an empty net.

Francis Tombi Alemi thought he had added the second goal for cotonsport, but was caught offside, after slotting in a rebound, as Wassou forced a superb save from Mbaynaissem.
Coach Anicet Mbarga Foe opted for fresh blood, bringing in Patrick Ekandjoum in the Place of Eric Api, and Leon Boyomo for Jean Simplice Mbang.
For Cotonsport, Coach Gabriel Haman made a tactical tweak, bringing in
Glid Otanga and Felix Oukine in the midfield, with Eric Morsou and Brawdon Eno called to rest.
At the 75th minute, Marou Souaibou saw goalkeeper Mbaynaissem off his line, and looped him from the halfway line, to put cotonsport two goals up.
Late subs from Astres bringing in Evans Bakandja and Tetek Makon in the place of Franck Ntsague and Christian Deugoue respectively, did not yield any fruits, as cotonsport stayed solid to winning their first league game in Garoua in over 303 days.
The last time cotonsport played a league game in Garoua was on August 23, 2021(nine months, 30days), a 3#2 win against Colombe.
Cotonsport will now face Eding sport of the Lekie in the final on Sunday. Eding sport had beaten Canon 8#7 on penalties, in the first semi final game.
Sunday’s final will see two pool B teams going head to head. Eding had defeated cotonsport 2#0 in the away game, but cotonsport also recorded a 3#0 win over Eding in the return game.
