Cotonsport’s lead scorer and deputy skipper has made a loud call to their supporters ahead of the first group game of the 2021-2022 CAF Confederation Cup this Sunday at the Roumde Adja Stadium in Garoua.
The 22-year old stated the fans constitute an important part of their plans in this season’s competition while discussing other aspects during this Saturday’s pre-match conference.
“We are very calm about what we plan to achieve in this game and in this season’s competition. What is certain is that the supporters are decisive in all we want to achieve this season,” the flying winger stated.
Marou started all four preliminary round matches as Cotonsport went pass Orapa United FC of Botswana and Mauritania’s FC Nouadhibou to reach the group stages for the second successive season of the competition. His quick brace against the later in the third round play-offs return game in Douala added to a goal earlier in the season away to Orapa in Gabarone.
Sunday’s game will be played infront of 20000 fans (dominated by Coton faithfuls) whose potential influence can’t be overlooked.
Coton’s last home game was last October and only half of the number of fans permitted for this one were allowed.
While galvanizing the fans, Marou also emphasized on what they must do as a team to carry the day.
“Though we expect much from the supporters, we also acknowledge that the ball is round and the pitch is level for both teams. Therefore we must give our best and maximize our chances of picking a win.”
Cotonport started last season’s competition with a defeat away to JS Kabylie but returned home to register a win in their second game and went on a run that took them till the semi final.
Given the fixture is somehow a clash between Egypt and Cameroon football institutions, the winger revealed they are thinking about Cameroon’s elimination in the AFCON.
“It is true we were all sadden by the manner in which Cameroon was eliminated from the AFCON, we are a Cameroon team and this crosses our minds. If there is anything we can do about it tomorrow we will do.”
A win against Al Masry, in what will also be the first ever meeting between both sides will set the ball rolling for Cotonsport and galvanize their fans ahead of match-day two and three games away to TP Mazembe of DR Congo and FC Otoho of Congo Republic.
Cotonsport versus Al Masry will kick off at 2pm on Sunday, but the gates of the venue will be opened at 11 AM local time to allow fans assemble before the start of real business at the Roumde Adjia Stadium barely a week after the end of the 2021 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations which made Garoua a major attraction to Africa and the world.
