Portuguese Women’s top-flight side SC Braga have completed the capture of 26-year old Cameroonian defender, Marie-Aurelle Awona from their Italian counterparts SSL Napoli Ladies.
The club took to their social media handles this Friday to announce that formalities had been completed for the Cameroon international to move to Portugal from Italy where she only spent one year with relegated Napoli.
Born in Yaoundé in Cameroon on February 2, 1993, Awona reinforces the Braga Women’s defense in view of the 2022-2023 season as coach Miguel Santos prepares a team for the title defense and continental competion.
Awona made 12 appearances last season at Napoli but her contribution couldn’t keep the club in the top-flight in the end.
She also experiences with Dijon, Soyaux, Le Mans, Stade Reims and Spanish side Madrid CFF.
Awona will start a new life in Portugal at a club compatriot Farida Machia made a name for till 2019 winning the league and cup double.
She has been involved in the last two AWCON and Women’s FIFA World Cup tournaments for Cameroon and in the running for the 2023 competition. Up
Her recent involvement in Morocco meant she has participated in four Women’s Africa cup of Nations tournament. The 2018 tournament remains her best for her country her brilliant output in the event in Ghana earned her a place in the team of the tournament.
