The President of the International Federation for the African MARACANA Association, Bleu Jean Charlemagne of Ivory Coast accompanied by his counter part of Cameroon , Doctor Kamgang Doumbissi held a press conference on Thursday, September 22,2022 ,in Yaounde at the Multipurpose Sports Complex, to enlighten the public on the 9th edition of the competition to hold in Cameroon.
During the thirty minutes exchanged with the press, FIMAA’s President elaborated extensively on the specificities of the 9th edition of the MARA’CAN expected to take place in Yaounde from Friday 23-24 of September 2022,at the Yaounde Multipurpose Sports Complex.
The competition was initially planned to host ten nations, but at the last minute just seven nations made known their interest to featured in the Yaounde MARA’CAN African showpiece.
The seven participating nations includes;
The Canadian team are considered to be the guest of honour , on this 9th edition of the tournament.
The first four times in pool A, shall compete in a single game each. While, the three from pool B shall have away and return-leg games.
The first and second of each pools shall confront each other, for a semi-final and final place. To grace the competition, will be a gala match between the Canadian team against an African nation.
The retired Ivorian Commissioner of Police, who doubles, as the President of the International Federation for MARACANA Association highlighted the following.
“We are very happy being in Cameroon for the 9th edition of the Maracana games, after spending close to three years with out holding the competition, due to the advent of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
“The MARA’CAN competition has as objectives to promote, conviviality, fraternity and friendship.We have been using the competition as a platform to promote, peace, good values of citizenship, unity and love among our African countries such as Cameroon, Mali, Burkina Faso who are going through tough times either for terrorists attacks and political upheavals. ” He added
The Federation was created on August 5th, 2015, in Lome Togo and brings together a total of 72 countries. It’s head office is located in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
“Through out the three days competition, we shall be delighted to prove to the world that, just like football, Mara’Can sports could have big names like Eto’o Fils, Emmanuel Adebayo, Didier Drogba, Seidou keita and Bertrand Traore.”
“My entire team and l are proud of Doctor Kamgang Doumbissi Herbert,President of the Cameroonian Maracana Association, for the formidable job, which he has been doing to vulgarize the practice of the discipline in Cameroon, within some localities like Douala, Kribi, Edea, Nkongsamba and Sangmelima.” Bleu Jean Charlemagne concluded
The discipline unfolds on a play ground measuring 22 by 44 metres,with 6 players each on both sides. The different categories are;
Youth team with ages ranging from 16-34 years old
Senior team: 34 years and above
Veterans: 45 to 60 years old.
The upcoming editions shall take have as host the following nations;
10th edition Benin
11th edition Niger
12th edition Togo
13th edition Gabon / Cameroon
14th edition Burkina Faso.
