Mani Betrand of Colombe of Dja has been named the David Mayebi Player of the Month for April 2022.
The Player of the month award which is sponsored by the National Syndicate of Cameroon professional Footballers known by its French acronym as SYNAFOC, is named after one of its founding fathers, David Mayebi.
The Intermediate Lions’ striker has been given the award after scoring five goals in his six MTN Elite One matches matches during the month.
Mani scored a hat-trick in the 5-0 bashing of Apejes just outside the month which propelled him into the bracket of the league’s top scorer for the first time in his Elite One career.
Votes from a jury constituted by the Cameroon Syndicate of Professional footballers gave Mani the award ahead of the likes of Apam Joseph, Wassou Goue, Arno Ndzana amongst others.
The Colombe striker saw off competition from the best in the month just like his 12 goals this season has propelled Colombe into the category of the best teams in the league though they failed to qualify for the title playoffs.
“This gives me alot of pressure as our supporters like to see their players in the highest height and once you are there they don’t want to hear about a regression,” Mani who recieved a cheque of 150 000 FCFA in addition to a trophy from Synafoc revealed.
It is the first time that Mani has won the monthly prize, which is the joint-highest number along with Tegemo Emmanuel of YOSA,Apam Joseph of Apejes and Maroua Souaibou of Cotonsport.
“I recieved this trophy with satisfaction. The workdone at personal and team level has been enormous and deserving of this,” the 24-year old who made four appearances for Cameroon during the CHAN 2020 on home soil is quoted by Sportsvibes.net.
His goals have also taken him into the lead in the race for the Golden Boot as he is just a goal behind lead scorer Bin Adolf Nkembe Enow.
Mani’s form has been important for his team too, helping Colombe win three of their May fixtures in their escape from the zone of the relegation threatened teams.
