South African Lloyd Harris lost his third round singles match to the unseeded American, Mackenzie McDonald, earlier this morning in straight sets.
McDonald beat Lloyd Harris 7-6 6-1 6-4 to reach his second slam fourth round.
This was Lloyd’s first ever appearance in the third round of a Grand Slam event after he defeated unseeded Danish player Mikael Torpegaard in the first round.
He went ahead to over come Australian Alexei Popyrin in a five set thriller in the second round to move to his first ever third round match in the Australian Open.
Harris’ opponent, McDonald is still on his way back from major hamstring surgery in 2019 and back into the top 150 as he faces Danil Medvedev next. Medvedev came through in five for the first time in his career, advancing to the fourth round of the Australian Open for the third consecutive year.
Lloyd Harris was the last African standing prior to today’s match after his fellow compatriot Kevin Anderson lost in the first round while Ons Jabeur of Tunisia, Sheriff Mayar of Egypt both lost in the second round of the Australian Open.
