Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp is hoping luck smiles on his team vis-a-vis Joel Matip’s fitness when face Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday in the English Premier League clash with Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham Hotspur.
This comes after the 29-year-old Cameroonian displayed signs of a fresh injury during their 1-1 draw against Fulham of compatriot Zambo Anguissa.
Matip was substituted at half-time during Sunday’s and medical reports suggest he had suffered back spasm and needed to be rested immediately.
The former Schalke 04 midfielder only recovered from his 19th career injury in ten years in November.
Speaking about the defender’s situation post-match at Craven Cottage,Klopp generated optimism about the fitness of the 22-capped Cameroonian.
“Joel Matip has a spasm in his back. We will see. In the moment, nothing else,” Klopp stated.
“He got already treatment, will get treatment and we will see. I think there’s a chance for Wednesday. [It’s not that bad] in the moment, no.”
As it stands Matip is on a long list of Liverpool players out injured as they prepare to recieve Premier League leaders Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.
