Algeria and Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez has revealed Liverpool FC were once keen on acquiring his services from Leicester City.
Unfortunately for Winger, the deal was put off when they signed Mohamed Salah from AS Roma.
Speaking to BeinSport recently the 29-year-old 2019 AFCON winner said discussion were well on course for him to leave Leicester City for Liverpool in 2016 but the Reds switched off on the deal.
“Before signing for Manchester City, Liverpool had manifested interest in my services, but when they signed Mohamed Salah, it was finished,” Mahrez opined.
Despite failing to move to the Anfield, Mahrez has been a hit at the Etihad Stadium.The left-footed winger has scored 21 goals and recorded 26 assists in 81 games at the Manchester club.
The Sarcelles native has picked four titles at the blue half of Manchester including a second Premier League crown since his arrived the club in July 2018.
The former Le Havre man captained the Desert Foxes of Algeria to their first AFCON success in 19 years during the 2019 tournament in Egypt.
He has developed into an important part of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City team just like Egyptian Mohamed Salah has been for Liverpool since arriving from AS Roma.
