It was a busy weekend of club football in the major leagues across the world. Just like their peers from other countries, Cameroonian players were highly involved in action over the weekend, with some being of great impact to their teams.
On this latest edition, we revisit how indomitable lions and potential indomitable lions across the global, performed over the weekend.
Choupo Moting seals win for Bayern
32_year_old forward Jean-Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, scored one of Bayern München’s four goals, in their four one win over Greuther Fürth in match day 23 of the German Bundesliga. Choupo Moting started on the bench, but came in at the 46th minute to replace Omar Richards, at a time when Bayern was one goal down.
Choupo made an instant impact setting up Robert Lewandowski for Bayern’s equalizer, and left it late before writing his name on the score sheet, as he turned home Serge Gnabry’s pass in the first minute of added time, to seal the win for his side. It was Choupo Moting’s fourth league goal of the season, which takes Bayern top of the Bundesliga with 55 points.
Castelletto Stops Messi, Neymar & Mbappe
Cameroonian defender Jean-Charles Castelletto, was rock solid at the defense, as his side Nantes, stunned Giants Paris Saint Germain three goals to one on Saturday, in game week 25 of the French ligue 1. Castelletto had near perfect display, as he coped very well with pace and intelligence of some of the world’s finest in Messi, Neymar Jr and Mbappe. Castelletto’s Nante are now seventh on the log in the French ligue 1.
Toko Ekambi assist as Lyon share spoils
29_year_old forward Karl Brillant Toko Ekambi, continued his brilliant form, as his assist helped savage a point for Olympique Lyonnais, in their one all tie against Lens. Lyon had gone behind at the 13 minute when Johnathan Clauss opened scores for Lens, but Toko Ekambi was the right man to serve Tino Kadewere with the right pass at the 44th minute, for the later to level scores. A one one score sanctioned the game.
Oyongo Bitolo back in starting XI for Montpellier
Cameroonian left back Ambroise Oyongo Bitolo, was back in the starting XI for Montpellier, as they recorded a one nil win over Lorient.
The victory coincided with Oyongo Bitolo’s first start for the club since November 2020 and the left-back put in a shift at the back to ensure coach Olivier Dall’Oglio’s men kept a clean sheet. Oyongo saw yellow in the game, but stayed on for full 90 minutes.
Fai Collins makes it two in two with Tai
Cameroonian right back Fai Collins, started and lasted full time for his Saudi club Al Tai, in their one zero win over AL Ittifaq in match day 21 of the Saudi Arabia pro League. The lone goal for Al Tai was scored by Tobías Nahuel Figueroa. It was Fai Collins’second game for Tai, and a second consecutive victory.
Bahoken and Ebosse on the losing end
It was a bad weekend for Cameroon’s Angers contingent, as right back Enzo Ebosse and forward Stephane Bahoken all featured as Angers bowed zero goal to one, to OGC Nice. Enzo Ebosse played full 90 minutes, while Bahoken came in at the 87 minute, to replace Mohamed_Ali Cho.
Joel Tagueu’s missed penalty costly to Maritimo
Over in the Portuguese Primeira Liga, Cameroonian forward Joel Tagueu failed to convert from the penalty spot late in the first half, as his team Maritimo eventually suffered a one zero defeat at home to Famalicao in a match day 23 fixture. The defeat leaves Maritimo on eighth position, with 28 points.
Devis Epassy saves a point for Crete
Goalkeeper Devis Rogers Epassy Mboka kept a clean sheet, as he helped 10_man OFI Crete, to pick up an important point away at Lonikos in match day 24 of the Greece super league. OFI Crete was reduced to 10, following a red card to Juan Angel Neira, but Epassy made some good saves to keep his goal clean.
Ngamaleu & Young Boys held by Grasshopper
Moumi Ngamaleu and Young Boys were held to a two all tie by Grasshopper in match day 22 of the Switzerland super league. Moumi Brice Nicolas Ngamaleu played 90 minutes in that game, but failed to register an assist or a goal. The draw puts Young Boys 10 points behind first place FC Zurich, who have 50 points.
Potential indomitable lions reassuring
Potential indomitable lion Anthony Elanga, came off the bench to seal a four two win for Manchester United in their match day 25 game of the English premier league against Leeds United at Elland Road. Elanga replaced Jesse Lingard at the 67 minute, and made sure United’s win was secured, as he lashed in Bruno Fernandes’ pass at the 88 minute.
Elsewhere, another potential indomitable lion, Youssoupha Moukoko, scored Dortmund’s fourth goal, in their six zero demolition of Borussia Monchengladbach in match day 23 of the German Bundesliga. Moukoko came in at the 67 minute to replace Donyell Malen and got his goal at the 74th minute. Moukoko’s Dortmund are currently second in the Bundesliga with 49 points, six points shy of leaders Bayern Munich.
Mfegue & Etouga involved in Ghana’s Super Clash
Cameroon’s duo Mfegue George and Frank Mbella Etouga were in action, as Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko separated goalless in the Ghana Premier league’s super clash. The scintillating game at the Accra sports stadium on Sunday afternoon failed to produce any goal, as Mfegue and Etouga’s Porcupine Warriors stay top of the league’s standing after game week 17.
Ndasi helps Rivers United go top
Cameroonian defender Ngweni Ndasi Kadiang Denis played Full Time for his Nigerian premier league side Rivers United, as they recorded a one zero win over Rangers international, to go top of the league standings. Rivers United now tops the league with 29 points, after game week 14.
