20-year-old Center-back Blondon Belanof Meyapya Fongain has played his first game for the senior national selection of Cameroon.
The sweeper on the books of Cameroon Elite Two outfit Fauve Azur Elite was handed debut on Tuesday evening in Cameroon’s final AFCON 2021 qualifiers game against the Amavubi’s of Rwanda.
Blondon had an impressive performance in the opening 45 minutes stopping fierce forward Meddie Kagere and his attacking colleagues on multiple occasions.
The partnership with 2017 AFCON winner Michael Ngadeu in the opening 45 minutes gave Cameroon the required assurance in the opening 45 minutes.
The defender returned with the same defensive solidity and stopped multiple incursions from the Rwandans until he was replaced.
The defender unfortunately picked up a muscle problem in the 67th minute and was replaced by makeshift defender Samuel Oum Gouet.
The defender is one of three home-based players picked by coach António Conceição Da Silva Oliviera for the current FIFA window.
In all, it was a first outing the the defender who also led Cameroon during the 2021 Under-20 African Nations cup in Mauritania.
