The Lone Star are paired in Group C with Nigeria, Cape Verde and the Central African Republic in the Qatar 2022 World Cup qualifiers.
According to the format of the qualification, Liberia will have to finish as group winners to progress to the next round of the qualifiers.
The ten second-round group winners play home-and-away over two legs. The five winners qualify for the World Cup.
Africa has been allocated five spots in the finals, which was earlier scheduled to be played in Qatar from 21 November to 18 December.
Unfortunately, the Lone Stars of Liberia will not kick a ball in a competitive match untill May 2021, after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced revised schedules for the Cameroon 2021 and Qatar 2022 qualifiers due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The third and fourth round of matches for the 2021 AFCON qualifiers was initially slated for March 2020, but has been postponed.
Countries in contention are expected to kick a ball in the round three and four games during the week of November 9-17, while the final two matches will be held between March 22-30 in 2021.
It is good to note that the Lone Stars were knocked out of the AFCON qualifiers in October 2019, during the preliminaries. Liberia lost 4-5 from the spot with a 1-1 aggregate against CHAD.
In the world Cup qualifiers which Liberia is still a part of, the second round was scheduled to begin in October 2020 continuing until October 2021 but has now been push to May 2021.
