Union de Mouvement Sportive of Loum clinched their second league one title in just their fifth season in the Cameroon top tier. Their zero all draw with defending champions, cotonsport was enough to hand Laurent Djam and his boys the most coveted trophy. UMS got into the playoffs under controversial circumstances, as only a decision of the homologation committee of the Cameroon Professional football league brought them in, at the detriment of Yong sports Academy of Bamenda, but their fairy tale ride in the playoffs, has been completely different from what was obtained during the first phase of the championship.
With three of their five playoff games won, one defeat and one draw, UMS finish top of the block with 10 points, one point ahead of runners up, cotonsport of Garoua. Coach Laurent Djam of UMS attributes his side’s success, to hard work. Speaking to Kick442.com after the game against cotonsport, he said “We worked very hard for it, we struggled to get the possibilities today and I congratulate all my players for that”. Laurent Djam further revealed that his tactical disposition made it difficult for cotonsport “tactically, we had a solid defense, with a lot of hard tackles, to try and get a draw and we played well with that”.
Crowned 2019 champions of the Cameroon league one championship, UMS will therefore be Cameroon’s lone representative in the CAF champions league and coach Laurent Djam thinks that they can improved on their performance in the African scene, as compared to previous participations “I think that know we will work better to have the best recruitment, and prepare well for the African club competitions”.
Coach Laurent has therefore clinch his second major Accolade in the space of two years, after he won the Cameroon cup in 2017, with New stars of Douala. For Union de Mouvement Sportive of Loum, their trophy Cabinet has welcomed three trophies in last four years. That is the Cameroon cup in 2015, and the league one titles in 2016 and 2019.
