Arrangements are in top gear by the Kwara State Beach Soccer Association to stage the maiden edition of the Kwara Date female U-17 Beach Soccer tournament in Ilorin, the State Capital.
According to the Chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Mrs. Abimbola Olaoye confirmed to journalists in Ilorin that the tournament will hold in April at Kwara State Stadium complex after approval from the women’s Development Committee of the African Beach Soccer Union, South Africa.
Mrs. Olaoye acknowledged the support of the Chairman of the Association, Alhaji Abdulateef Adedeji, and its patron, Prince Oladimeji Thompson, explained that the competition is aimed at discovering talented female beach soccer players and also improve awareness about the game in the State.

She applauded the milestones and giant strides of the present administration in the area of sports infrastructural development across the state, noting government’s efforts and investment in sports development from the grassroots is unprecedented.
She however solicited government and other stakeholders assistance in their bid to organise an acceptable and befitting first-ever female beach soccer tournament.
Kwara State is following the footsteps of Kebbi State which recently organised the first male beach soccer league in Nigeria with Atiku Bagudu Beach Soccer Club winning the inaugural edition this year.
