Mainz O5 had a relatively improved Bundesliga performance on Friday evening as they opened round 24 of the German League matches with a virgin draw away at Schalke O4.
Both sides settled forba point without scoring in a game that had multiple goal mouth moments but lacked the final touch to beat both keepers.
For Mainz it is a point gained away from home and the additional good news about that was Kunde Malong who had been out of the first team for three months due to an injury returned to the match-day squad.
Though the native from Limbe didn’t feature in the game, coach Svensson will be a happy man because of the return of the midfield kingpin.
The 25-year old versatile midfielder has made 11 Bundesliga appearances this term and hopes to add to that after returning in final sprint phase of marathon season.
The 18-capped Cameroonian is expected to make a telling contribution in Mainz quest to best the drop.
Kunde has been included in Cameroon’s squad for this month’s AFCON qualifiers against Cape Verde and Rwanda.
Mainz are currently ranked 16th on the log with 18 points from 24 games in the 18-Clubs championship.
