Olympiakos can count Pierre Kunde Malong amongst major contributors to achieve their 1-0 first-leg UEFA Champions League playoffs against Azerbaijani side Neftçi on Wednesday night.
The midfielder started and lasted 69 minutes in the dramatic game which saw Camara score in the 29th minute and was sent off in the 43rd minute as the Greek side held on to win.
The Cameroonian who only joined the Club a few days back displayed his class in the middle of the pack, justifying coach Pedro Martins’ decision to play him.
From the right side of the midfield, the 25-year old Best Stars Academy of Limbe product made a number of his trademark runs, creating chances for his attacking colleagues, unfortunately none of the opportunities were converted.
Though Neftçi registered a red card of their own,as Mert Çelik was sent off in the 63rd minute, Olympiakos played like a time to achieve the results after 90 minutes.
Sourlis took Kunde’s place in the 69th minute and also did well in the last 20 but in all, the Cameroonian midfielder in his first competitive appearance for club and in the Champions League did well and the results justified the team’s effort.
Olympiakos travels to the Azerbaijani city of Baku for next week’s return-leg game and the winner of the tie on aggregate will progress to round three of the playoffs.
