The goalkeeping department will be a strong position for Edo Queens in the Nigeria Women Football League, NWFL Premiership due to the fact that the club has in their fold two capable and competent goalkeepers in Christy Ohiaeriaku and Obidinma Nkiruka who joined from last season’s fairy tale side, Adamawa Queens. They also have Rachael Udoka in their fold.

Christy Ohiaeriaku is armed with club and national team experience as she has been invited to Super Falcons and trained alongside top-rated Super Falcons goalkeepers like Chiamaka Nnadozie and Tochukwu Oluehi. Christy Ohiaeriaku is not a novice as far as the NWFL Premiership is concerned.

Prior to the 2014 African Women’s Championship, Ohiaeriaku was included in a provisional squad for the Nigerian women’s national football team. She was part of the team at the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup, being one of three goalkeepers chosen. She did not start any games, instead being an unused substitute for the matches against United States, Australia and Sweden in what was described as a ” group of death “.

In the run-up to the 2016 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, she hoped her continued football in Sweden would help her achieve a place in the squad. She was subsequently named to the squad for the tournament.

She was the goalkeeper in goal in Nigeria’s record biggest win ever, with a 15-0 win over Niger at the West African Football Union (WAFU) Cup in 2019.

Christy Ohiaeriaku has featured for the Swedish side, IFK Ostersund, and was also part of the Super Falcons squad that emerged as winners of the 2014 African Women’s Championship, AWC. She has played for the likes of FC Robo Queens, Tokas Queens, Osun Babes, Rivers Angels, Confluence Queens, and Delta Queens.

Her experience will be of immense importance for Edo Queens in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership.
