The race for the 2019-2020 golden boot in the Cameroon Elite One championship has reached top gear.
Not only are they multiple contenders, it is even difficult to separate the leaders who are now tied on the same number of goals. Alphonse Kevin Assiga of Canon completed his comeback on Sunday. He has equalled Leon Boyomo of PWD on 10 goals.
Assiga scored twice against TKC to take his goal tally to 10 goals this season.
A set piece goal in the first segment plus another goal in the second half was enough for Canon to get the better of TKC in the history Yaounde derby which they edged by the odd goal in three.
Leon Boyomo’s absence from the domestic championship because of his stay with the Intermediate Lions hasn’t helped his desire to win the scorers competition. He has missed the last three games and hasn’t been on the score sheet in the last six round of league matches.
Kevin has played just 16 games this season. With six goals in his last four games after his return from Morocco where he was on tryouts, he has succeeded to get to the top of the scorers chart with 12 league games left.
The 22-year-old striker, once of Turkish sides Aksaraspor and Orduspor, is in his first full season in the Cameroon Elite One championship.
Boyomo and Assiga are closely followed by a group of players who are just two goals shot from the leaders. Union’s Nlend Samuel, YOSA’s Tongua Armel Emmanuel Regis and Francis Elimbi of Colombe of Dja and Lobo, all on 8-goals.
The next round of matches will be played on Wednesday.
