Football fans are sometimes tempted to fall in love with the goal scorers of their teams. Testament to this fact is the major awards being handed all over the world as ‘pole snipers’ (forwards) dominate the list’s. Koulibaly won best Serie A defender 2018, after bundling Napoli to second spot in 2017/18 season. Not making the final 3 is acceptable but not appearing in the 10 man shortlist raises the eyebrows.
It is with great joy that the African continent has seen the rise and the development of the Senegalese (Koulibaly), from Genk, to Metz and his present club Napoli.
Koulibaly’s worth has tripled, most notably with the eyes of some European giants lurking for a defender that is as smooth and meek as the 27-year-old is.
Koulibaly dropped the chance of playing for “Le blue” after stints with their junior categories. The defender has been omnipresent for Senegal since making his debut in 2015 he, has gone on to be the metronome for the side. Aliou Ciss’e (Senegal’s coach) has tried twisting the backline that would suit him. First up was the partnership with Kara Mbodji in the Afcon 2017, and latter with Salif San’e for the 2018 FIFA world cup. Hopefully in the nearest future, Caf recognises his efforts.
