The successful Under 17 Lions of Cameroon have arrived Yaounde with the 2019 Under 17 AFCON trophy won on Sunday evening in Dar Es Salaam.

The delegation of winners accompanied by the minister of Sports Narcisse Kombi Mouelle and the president of FECAFOOT Prince Seidou Mbombo Njoya touched down at the Nsimalen International airport in Yaounde at 11:00 AM sparking jubilant scenes from hundred of admirers at the airport.

The Cameroon delegation was received at the airport by the Secretary General at the ministry of Sports and Physical Education Benga Zachee Robert.

The boys coach Thomas Libih defeated Guinea by 5 successful penalty shoot out to 3 in Sunday’s final to lift Cameroon’s second AFCON trophy in the category and the country’s first since 2003.

The Cameroon team left the country on the 23rd of March 2019 to participate in the BINEWA & BINEWA Sports Management Invitational tournament where they finished runners up to Tanzania but return home today with an enviable record of no defeat in 5 games as they cruise to the third title Under coach Thomas Libih.

The Technical staff of Thomas Libih,Olivier Nankam,Owono Foe and Lucien Metommo braved the odds to win the AFCON with just 15 available players as at full time on Sunday.Captain Ndzie Fabrice missed the final due to suspension while Francois Bere and Dibongue Gaël limped off due to an injuries against Guinea in the final.

The team had a parade from the Nsimalen airport to Mansel Hotel where they will Lodge while waiting for directions from football officials in the country.

The team went through major neighborhoods in Yaounde like Messame Ndongo,Tropicana,Mvan,Mvogmbi,Post Centrale,Nlongkack before getting to Mansel Hotel.

Beside coming home with the AFCON trophy,Cameroon Midfielder Mvoue Steve Regis was voted the player of the tournament while Daouda Amadou got the man of the match award for his performance in the final.

Seidou Ismaïla won the man of the man award once in the tournament and was the team’s best scorer with two goals in the competition.
