Doubts clouds the future of the 2021 Under-17 AFCON tournament scheduled for March 13th to 31st across three cities in Morocco.
This Pan-African Sports news agency understands the CAF emergency committee members will meet on Monday, March 8 in Casablanca to discuss the future of the tournament as Morocco tightens measures against the Corona Virus pandemic.
Amongst options is postponement of the tournament, taking to another country or outright cancelation.
The 2021 edition of the 12 nations tournament was initially scheduled for April this year but brought forward on Morocco’s request. Unfortunately, in the COVID-19 situation now the tournament may not happen as planned.
So far, Ivory Coast, Zambia, Senegal, Uganda are already in Morocco for the tournament.
All four nations will have to keep their ears on tomorrow’s meeting with hopes of a favorable decision.
Cameroon’s Under-17 selection just like a handful of others have tried their way out of home for the Moroccan soil, but on two occasions Cameroon has not had some of the administrative clearance (Visas) to move out.
