Cameroonian midfield maestro and 2019 South Africa League two winner with Stellenbosch FC, Junior Awono,24 has told kick442.com that he is quite satisfied with his performance for his club in the just ended season think he has moved away from the shadows of the disappointing CHAN 2018 Competition in Morocco.
Awono Junior featured 29 times in 30 League matches for Stellenbosch putting up a great display that fetched him the club’s player of the season award.
Speaking to kick442.com over the weekend the versatile midfielder sounded very optimistic going forward.
“I arrived in South Africa after a very difficult time with my country in the CHAN but was ready to right the wrongs,I did trials with a few clubs but many of them weren’t willing to give me a chance and that made me stronger when I got my chance at Stellenbosch FC. The Stellenbosch FC finally saw what they wanted in me and gave me a 1 season contract,the beginning wasn’t very easy especially with the language but my mates and coaches helped me adapt quickly”
“We had a great season but must multiply efforts if to compete and stay in the PSL next season”; Awono added
The former Renaissance of Ngoumou and YOSA captain also captained the domestic Lions of Cameroon at the 2018 CHAN competition but will not be available for selection when Cameroon host the tournament in 2020,now playing abroad,Awono can only represent the senior National team of Cameroon.
