The former Editor-in-Chief of Kotoko Express, Mr. Jerome Otchere has rejected claims blaming the media for being responsible for the woes of the Ghana Premier League.

Many club administrators have been complaining about their inability to secure sponsorship due to the dented image of the league.

Section of Ghanaians have chastised some media outlets for their derogatory remarks against the league as a result of the woes of the Ghanaian topflight.

Reacting to the claim on Darling FM’s sports show (Darling Sports Extra) on the role of the media in promoting the league, the astute journalist Mr. Jerome Otchere said the Ghanaian media cannot be blamed for the rotten image of the league.

“The media cannot be blamed. The organisers are the main cause of our problem. In many cases, the media reports exactly what happens on the field. The organisers have to put right measures in place to turn things around. The club supporters too must learn to behave well at match venues,” he said.

On the role of the media in promoting the league, Mr. Otchere said Ghanaian journalists must always report truth and accuracy.

“Let’s report the truth. The key thing about the work is telling the truth. When you loose it, you loose everything. The Bible even says that truth liberates. Whichever issue you talk about, be it clubs, the official, footballers or the FA, you must be guided by the truth. Sometimes, some officials hate the truth which makes the work difficult but then if you are determined to stand by the truth all the time, the public will see you as the crusader of the truth,” he added.
