In what seems like weeks of revelations from ex Nigeria internationals, another ex Nigerian footballer, Jonathan Akpoborie has revealed yet another shocker.
From Taribo West to Bonfere Jo to Garba Lawal all ex internationals and coach dropped details that got Nigerians talking in the last couple of weeks.
This time it is a little different from the others with Jonathan Akpoborie.
He focused on the football officials in his time in the National team.
He took to twitter on Thursday to state that some elements of distraction almost scuttled the historic win of the Nigerian team that conquered the world at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996.
”Though Nigeria won the Olympics, there were some elements of attempted distraction. The team was doing some good work and the whole team had a strong response to events if not, another drama would have destroyed that one.” The ex international said.
Akpoborie further revealed that the coach as at that time, Bonfere Jo was almost sacked by a delegation if not for the resistance of the team.
”Bonfere Joe was almost sacked as the team was preparing for the Olympics. We were already in America working very hard and one morning this delegation came from Nigeria to take over training from Bonfere. The loud voice of resistance from the team, was unanimous that’s why Jo stayed.”
Nigeria conquered the rest of their rivals in that competition and brought back Gold.
Jonathan Akpoborie played for Nigeria from the junior team 1985 to the senior team in 2001.
