Indomitable Lions of Cameroon and Maritimo forward Joel Tagueu scored the lone goal in his side’s 1-3 defeat against Estoril Pria in the quarter-final of the Teca de Portuguese on Wednesday.
Maritimo’s disciplinary weaknesses and inability to make more of their chances cost them a game they initially looked like winning with ease.
Joel Tagueu gave Maritimo a 29th minute lead to crown their efforts in the opening exchanges of the game.
The boys of coach Manuel Mendes protected that lead at the Estadio dos Bareiros till the end of 90 minutes but the drama of the game was still to come.
Estoril blew the game wide opened in the 10th minute of added time when João Gamboa equalized.
The game ended on the 1-1 score forcing the need to take it to extra time.
Seven minutes into extra time Lazare Amani scored the second for Estoril in the 97th minute of the game.
That goal completely unsettled Maritimo whose full-back Cláudio Winck was sent off for picking a second booking in the 102 minute.
Seven minutes later, Harramiz rounded the scoring with the third for the visitors who looked to be cruising to the semis.
Edgar Costa was sent off late in the game, leaving Maritimo with just nine players till full-time.
Joel played the entire game and his goal is the fifth in 15 games in all competitions this season.
