Despite his absence from the National team, Cameroonian centre-back, Job Joël André Matip has continued engraving his name in the international scene.
Against Leeds United, counting for match-day 26 of the English Premier League for Liverpool, Joel Matip who has been a reliable centre-back for Jurgen Klopp’s side, once again defended his stay in the club.
Assisted by Mohamed Salah, Joel Matip found the back of goalkeeper Illan Meslier’s net with the second goal for Liverpool at 30th minute, this after Mohamed Salah earlier opened the scoring.
Liverpool FC trashed helpless Leeds United 6#0 at Anfield Stadium, a brace from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, one each for center-back pairing Joel Matip and Vigil Van Dijk did the job for the Reds. They now count 60 points in 26 games, three points behind league leader Manchester City.
Since debuting for Liverpool FC in 2016 from German side Schalke 04, Joel Matip totals 116 appearances, counts seven goals, and looks promising to deliver more.
Matip despite his on and off injuries in the international scene, remains one of Klopp’s undisputed starting 11 at the backyard.
After 194 appearances with German side Schalke O4 where he scored 17 goals, Matip moved to Liverpool, he has been a success at Anfield. The 27-capped Cameronian has made 116 appearances for Liverpool and scored seven goals.
He made his debut for the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in 2010 and played for the team till 2014, and retired owing to off the pitch happenings.
