Cameroon’s Joel Matip has been nominated for the PFA Bristol St Motors fans player for the month of September.

The 28-year-old defender has been outstanding for Liverpool since the beginning of the season and had been voted man of the match as the Reds beat Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.

The former Schalke 04 center-back’s appearance in the English Premier Leagues has inspired Liverpool to an unbeaten run so far, the only club not to suffer a defeat.

Matip has however not played for Liverpool this month after sustaining an injury against Sheffield United last September.

Jürgen Klopp had confirmed the Cameroonian international will not be available for their UEFA Champions League Clash against RedBull Salzbourg on Wednesday at Anfield.

He has also been ruled out for this weekend clash against Leicester City.

Joel Matip’s absence cost Liverpool to concede careless goals against Salzburg but won the game to avoid a scare.

He could be returning to action in the days ahead.
