One of the longest serving captain of his time, Joel Etouge has marshalled UMS of Loum to unbridled triumphs since joining the club from then League 2 side National Polytechnic Bambui in 2014.
Union Movement Sportive of Loum are one of the youngest club’s in league 1 football today, with their creation coming in 2011. The team did not spend more than a year in a division going up the ranks and promotion finally came in 2014.
Joel Etouge joined the club in 2014 and since then it has been a rather never ending ‘romance’ between himself and what he considers his darling club.
Just 1 year after joining the club, Etouge graced his stay in the first-year with silverware together with teammates beating tough opposition:Coton Sport, Canon Yaounde, Union Sportive of Douala and then succeeding to beat Panthere of Nde 2-0 in the Cameroon cup.
After the 2015 success of the Cameroon cup some leadership skills were spotted in the midfielder and he was given the responsibility to skipper the side. He did not fail at all as he led the team to their first Cameroon league 1 championship and did so in some style, opening a wide gap of 10 points between themselves and country giants Cotonsports in 2016.
After a Cinderella triumph to the 2016 Elite 1 championship, Etouge and co made long strides unperturbed to their second finals of the Cameroon cup which they lost 1-0 to New Stars.
As the great leader that he is, two seasons after, the captain with the trademark Petr Czech-like head-guard, has yet again showed wonderful leadership skills from the regular season to the playoffs, missing just one game in the playoffs due to injury in their 2019 ride to their second Elite 1 championship.
Captain ‘fantastic’ has had some, run winning everything at local level and all that is now left for him is to go ahead and conquer the rest of the Continent.
