Newly promoted French Ligue 1 outfit FC Lorient have announced the acquisition of veteran Malagasy international defender Jérémy Morel, kick442.com can report.
Morel signed a one-year contract with the Merlus, with an optional additional twelve months, if Lorient succeeds to beat the drop.
The 36-year-old was a free agent after coming to an end of his contract with Rennes, at the end of this season.
He returns to Lorient nine years after leaving them to join Marseille.
“I am very proud to return to my boyhood club, where I learnt my trade,” Morel told the club’s official website.
“FC Lorient have succeeded to get back to the French top flight, three years after playing in the French second tier, I am definitely happy that they are back.
“I am back here to help the club re-establish itself at the top level. I lived some great moments here and I am hoping to relive such moments with this current group of players.
“With my experience, I will try to live up to the expectations of the coach, the staff and club in general.”
Morel brings a wealth of experience of 460 league games and 15 goals under his belt to Lorient.
This season, he featured in 21 league games, scoring one goal for Rennes.
