22-year-old Cameroonian international, Jeannot Sama Esua has won the 2019 FC Edmonton Best Player of the year Award after an excellent season in the inaugural Canadian Premier League.
The former Rainbow FC rising star who joined the Canadian top flight Club in February 2019 has scored one goal and has three assist in his League debut.
He has become a regular for ” The Eddies” and a fan favourite at Clarke Stadium.
The youngstar believes such recognition within the ranks of his club will spur him to work harder and inspire his team to success.
“It feels great when the staff , team mates and Fans recognize the hard work you put in via the season and decides to compensate you for that . This award is also going to motivated me personally and push me to work harder for the task ahead of me”.
Jeannot Esua returned to North America with FC Edmonton after a brief spell with Orange County SC in the USA where his extraordinary skills cought the attention of Jeff Paulus-headcoach of his present club in Canada. He believes a move to Canada has been obviously fruitful and is hopeful to replicate his fine-form when duty call.
“I came to the Canadian Premier League with high expectations and I wanted to prove a point and impose my system of play in my team and the League. Being the best player of my team and being one of the best right backs of the Canadian Premier League, I can say my objectives outlined at the start of the season has been accomplished. I just hope to get some more opportunity for the next level and push forward” Jeannot told kick442.com
“FC Edmonton is a great club. The fans, the owners, the staff , the players. Coming into the team during the pre-season, I didn’t expect things to be this way. I have a good relationship with the coach. I remain professional, disciplined and try to do my job. The coach helps me to develop into the player I am now. With my team mates, it is more of a brotherhood. Playing with them this season has been a privilege” He added.
The fullback admitted the just ended season has been a real boost for him with lots of memorable moments at the club.
“The season as whole has been great with a lot of beautiful moments. We didn’t startup so with some draws but we tried to push on, stayed focus and kept the same mentality. It started paying off with the club getting some good wins. It has been great”
Jeannot Esua began playing professional football with Rainbow FC before his move to the USA with Orange Sport County. His experience with his boyhood club, the USA, as well as some football academies in his country of origin, Cameroon has had tremendous impact on the player’s potentials as he burst into a unstoppable defensive machinery in recent months.
“It has been a really good experience for me, through some football Academies in Cameroon before moving to Orange County and then FC Edmonton. It has left me a lot because every season gets better and my games ameliorate as well. And most of my decisions improve per game and season”
The award winning defender has nursed hopes of a possible National team call-up with Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions as he intends to prove his worth with the national selection.
“Every youngstar playing at the professional level will always nurse that desire to play one day with the national team. Am working hard for a call-up. I hope one day I get to represent my country. However it will also depend on the Federation and the coaches” .
The Canadian Premier League is in its maiden season with 7 teams from five of Canada’s ten provinces. Regular season begins from April to October and consist of Spring and Fall Season.
“The Canadian League is its inaugural season. The League is very promising. Young talents are coming in and the game plan is highly intensif. For me it is a great League , few years to come the League will grow“. Jeannot Esua revealed.
Apart from winning the 2019 Player of the year Awards for Edmonton FC, Jeannot Esua helped his team to a third place finish, featured four times in the Canadian team of the week and was among the top five Premier Performers of the season.
He signed a one year contract with the Canadian club with one optional year.
